Warmer temperatures means unwanted pests like ants, spiders, earwigs, even scorpions will soon try and make their way into our homes and sanctuaries.
According to Russ Horton, national technical director and lead entomologist for HomeTeam Pest Defense the winter of 2012 was continually warm and pests came out early and stayed; 2013 however, has been very different.
Horton explained, “At times this winter it was very cold; then it warmed up and the pests came out; then it got cold again and the pests went dormant until it warmed up again and the pests re emerged. This cycle has occurred several times this winter. Now we predict that the spring of 2013 will be a very active pest year; actually, we are already seeing a lot of pest movement. Specifically in Florida and Texas we are seeing all types of ants and bees, out west we are seeing crickets and scorpions, and in the Carolinas ants.
