Taexx, the bug barrier, effectively controls household pests through a network of tiny tubes that run throughout designated walls and wet walls of a home and connect back to exterior service ports, where the pest control materials are injected.
According to Dirk Korte, vice president of national accounts, the Taexx system is sold to the builder and installed by HomeTeam Pest Defense technicians. HomeTeam Pest Defense then sets up an annual service agreement with the homeowner, which typically involves quarterly treatments. When serviced regularly, the Taexx system creates a virtual barrier to keep ants, roaches and other insects from entering the home.
“One of the best features of the Taexx system is that we service the system from the exterior of the home; therefore, the homeowner does not need to be home,” Korte said.
To ensure complete pest control, the HomeTeam includes a 6-point Advantage with all their services
- Inspecting your home’s exterior to identify potential pest problems.
- Removing cobwebs and wasps nests within reach.
- Injecting the Taexx® built-in pest control system (if installed in your home) or providing conventional pest control applications.
- Treating entry points such as doors and windows.
- Applying pest control materials around the perimeter of your home.
- Providing a detailed service report and preventive tips to keep your home pest-free between scheduled treatments.
The pest control product used by HomeTeam in the Taexx system is manufactured by Bayer AG. This product was chosen because it is effective against all household pests in all regions of the United States. In addition, it moves easily through the tubing, so as not to clog the tube.
According to Russ Horton, national technical director and lead entomologist for HomeTeam Pest Defense, ants are the toughest pests to treat.
Horton explains, “A carpenter ant can have a main colony and several satellite colonies. The distance between a main colony and a satellite colony can be 100 yards – the distance of football field. Therefore, a carpenter ant’s nest can be several houses away from the home being treated. Also, an ant’s diet changes throughout the year; for instance, in the spring when everything is blooming, many ants prefer sweets and they feed on the honeydew produced by other insects that suck the sap out of plants. Spiders and scorpions, which are not insects, can also be very challenging pests to control because of their physical makeup, habitat and grooming habits.”
